A driver yesterday killed a total of three persons in separate incidents and eventually killed himself while fleeing from law enforcement agents after he accidentally killed the first victim. The driver who drove a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with plate number, Rivers BNY 317 BK, was said to be the driver of a VIP and was on his way to pick his boss when he hit a man near Polo Club, but drove on rather than stop to attend to the victim.
It was while he was on the run that he hit two more persons, including a mentally-challenged man, who both died on the spot near the popular Madela Car Wash in GRA. An eye witness said that the driver eventually hit an electric pole in the same GRA, before running into a fence, where he lost his own life in the process. According to the source at the popular Mandela Car Wash area, security operatives, who were chasing the driver after killing the first person, later arrived the scene and removed the corpse.
Meanwhile, the woman who escaped death in the incident said that it was God that spared her life, stressing that: “I would have been dead by now. “The whole thing happened in a flash; I was walking towards the main road, the man that was killed was right behind me, the car came all of a sudden and hit him and he fell, part of the car that fell off hit me with speed and I also fell down, that was how I sustained the injury.
I would have died like that man today (yesterday),” she narrated. When contacted, the spokesman for the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni (SP), confirmed the incident. He said: “A total of four persons lost their lives in the accident that occurred at the GRA.”
