Fayemi Orders Refund To New Oja Oba Market Subscribers

Gov Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State

Ado-Ekiti – Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has ordered that the allocation of stalls in the new ultramodern Oja Oba Market I, Ado-Ekiti, should stop henceforth.

The allocation had been a subject of controversies before the exit of former Governor Ayo Fayose with chiefs and indigenes alleging that there was a plot to scheme them out of what they termed as the community heritage.

But Fayose had explained over N300 milliom realised from the sales of forms and part allocation were kept in the Bank for Fayemi’s administration to complete the project.

Justifying his action, Fayemi explained that his government had discovered that the market complex is not ready for use.

A structural evaluation of the complex shows that some considerable construction work would be required to fix the inherent structural defects which have made the building unsafe for use.

As this process would take some time, the Governor has therefore directed that the process of allocation of shops be stopped immediately.

The Governor also directed that all subscribers with proof of payment for shops in the market should be refunded.

The Ministries of Works and Commerce are to work out a seamless process for the refund.
